Diesel Exhaust Fluid and United States of America Regulations

There are different emission standards around the world, setting specific NOx emission limits that require the use of SCR and Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF). The four main pollutants covered by vehicle emission legislation are  Nitrogen Oxide (NOx), Particulate Matter (PM), Carbon monoxide (CO), and Hydrocarbons (HC).

In the USA, emissions from vehicles are regulated by the EPA’s Clean Air Act. The use of SCR System for NOx reduction is an efficient way to meet these regulations, which went into effect on January 1, 2010 and sets the NOx emission limits at 0.20 g/bhp-hr.
